GYULAIS® CATTLE

Combining the Charolais breed advantages in growth, weight gain and feed conversion with Wagyu breed advantages in carcass quality and calving ease would seem to be a logical means to produce yield grade 1 and 2, prime and high choice carcass cattle.

Our first experience with the cross, involved breeding Fullblood Charolais heifers (MOGO CHAROLAIS, Florence, Alabama and BAR J CHAROLAIS, Liverpool, Texas) to two ET Wagyu bulls obtained from John Holdridge, an importer of the JVP Wagyu cattle. Our results with the first 23 calves has been so favorable, we believe pursuing the cross as a breed is worthy of further efforts and evaluation. Gyulais performance data will be carefully recorded and DNA certification of Wagyu parentage will be verified. If our initial impression of the calves is verified by performance data, a registry will be established.

Currently an additional 50 heifers are being bred to Wagyu bulls and we are actively pursuing additional Wagyu bloodlines to cross with our Charolais herd.

Updates will be posted here from time to time, and initial performance data should be available in the Spring of 2013.
